Government Shutdown moves into tenth day

This morning president Donald Trump received the national budget on his desk to sign. After the senate passed it earlier this week, and house passed it last night with a 222-209 vote. 216 republicans in the house voted for approval, with 6 democrats voted to approve it. 207 democrats voted to disappear it with 2 republicans voted no.

Donald Trump signed the budget this morning ending the longest government shutdown in history on the 43 day.

Now most government employees will be going back to work and SNAP will be successfully funded for the next fiscal year, along with the rest of the government.`

Today is the 41st day of the shutdown, making it the longest shutdown in history.

Some Senate Democrats have voted in favor of the GOP-proposed budget, passing it in the Senate with a 60-40 vote. Now it is going to the House for approval.

The house will start sessions back on Wednesday, November 12 because of Tuesday being Veterans Day.

If the House passes this final legislation, it gives funding to the government until January 30, as well as three full-year funding bills for some parts of the government. These are Department of Agriculture, the Food and Drug Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, Military Construction and the Legislative Branch.

Donald Trump said he hopes to sign this bill and have the government re-open.

Today is the 33rd day of the shutdown. Nearing the longest shutdown in history, which was 35 days during Trump’s first presidential term.

There is 25 states suing President Donald Trump for withholding SNAP benefits. Two judges have ruled that the Trump administration needs to make at least partial payments for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. The Trump administration stated that they will pay half the money for food stamps.

President Trump said Saturday on Truth Social that he was directing Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth to “use all available funds to get our Troops PAID on October 15th.” 

However, the other federal employees will still go without pay.

“We have identified funds to do this, and Secretary Hegseth will use them to PAY OUR TROOPS. I will not allow the Democrats to hold our Military, and the entire Security of our Nation, HOSTAGE, with their dangerous Government Shutdown,” President Trump said.

Both Democrats and Republicans have proposed a compromise, both have been shot down, not receiving the 60% vote needed.

The Democratic-led bill to extend the government’s funding failed first on Monday with a 45-50 vote. The Republican one then fell short at 52-42.
