After a long day of school, the first thing most students do is jump on their phones. Mindless scrolling through the newest dance of Tiktok, looking at your dream aesthetic on Pinterest, and sending photos to people on Snapchat just to get your score up are daily activities for some teens in our generation.
“[When I get home] I lay on my bed and play on my phone. I mean that’s all I ever do,” Macy Roberts, 8, said.
There are many other activities that can stimulate your brain like scrolling. Many people think hobbies have to take a lot of brainwork and dedication, but that is not the case. Going on a run while listening to an encouraging podcast or audiobook can help you relax.
“For running, it just helps me relax, being outside and having the wind on my face is calming for me,” Brayden Armstrong, freshman, said.
If being physical or going outside aren’t your thing, some creative hobbies could be just what you need. Painting a beautiful picture, coloring a detailed flower, or drawing an original character are all options to spark the right side of your brain.
“It’s fun doing my nails because I can be creative,” Ava Covington, 8, said.
If making unique designs doesn’t pique your interest, logic puzzles could be your cup of tea. Sudoku, crosswords, chess, puzzles, and reading are viable options to sharpen your mind.
“With reading, I get to see the world through other people’s point of view. I love getting to experience things through fictional characters’ minds,” Heather Davidson, freshman, said.
