Legislation on child safety on the internet

For decades the government has witnessed suicides, self harm, and depression from teens and children that use the internet on their own.

In response the Kids Online Safety Act of 2022 was passed.

For those wondering what this Act does, it allows parents or guardians to report harmful sights their child might try to watch or get on, so that those sights don’t come up again. It also protects children’s privacy, and reduces the amount of time spent on the internet.

From security.org when parents were asked if children under 18 should have legislative protection from social media 68% of parents think they somewhat and very much should, 18% of parents think the idea is neutral, and 14% of parents think children should not have social media protection. Many states are starting to require social media apps to make safer child versions.

I find it quite interesting to read about legislation that’ll protect us and our families. I had honestly never heard of the Kids Online Safety Act, and I found that it’s quite important and affects our lives in a quite positive way. I believe that mentioning the consequences of the lack of an act similar to this one was extremely impactful and allowed us to associate the act for its purpose—trying to curb, if not completely end, all of these consequences. I do wish there was a bit more detail about how the act came to be and how exactly its implementation will function. I feel that’s quite important. I would love to see more updates on privacy online and how we can protect it. Overall, this was very informative, and I loved how it was short and to the point. I will definitely be recommending this to people I know.

I’ve learned that teens should have more privacy and parents should support organizations moving toward that.I think the strongest part of the article is when the writer put in statistics. I feel that they should have answered some of the parents questions. I feel that adding even more statistics to the article would be better.

I learned that some kids actually do get taken advantage of online and we do need to be more aware that it is a problem. My questions I still have to wonder is why do these parents let their kids treat other people so bad? In the future what I would to see more is what are some of the kids perspectives.

I feel like the most strongest and interest I found was the legislation on child safety and I also learned about how kids are way more rude and mean to the point they drive a kid to kill themselves which is really messed up. Questions that got left out is why would a person be so mean and cause a person to have depression just to make themselves feel way way better then having a person be happy with themselves without bullying another kid so bad it’s could lead to suicide. what I think y’all should put in the future maybe some medical stuff or music articles or some mental health articles.

I’ve learned that teens should have a little more restriction while on the internet but while still keeping their privacy. I think the strongest part of the article is how students take their own lives over social media. I think the left a little out on the restrictions and the consequences of having freedom over the internet

I learned that many teens and kids loose there life due to the internet and that some 18 year old don’t have social media because there parents are trying to protect them. I think that there should be more detail about the app.
