RISE time is a newly implemented system that allows students to choose their advisory class. It stands for Remediation, Intervention, Study Hall and Enrichment. From learning about the stock market to making bracelets, there are many RISE time sessions available for students to pick.
Teachers are able to offer a class of their choice if they are not remediating students.
”I want them to grow in their creativity,” Brandi Hanson, science teacher, said.
Providing engaging classes geared toward students’ enrichment helps keep them in school.
Laura Fee explains, “Attendance is a big issue, and one of the things we want to make sure students have is a reason to come to school.”
Those reasons can be small.
“I think making bracelets helped me to be more creative with patterns and using materials,” Evolet Reyes, freshman, says.
The primary focus of RISE time is improving student’s test scores and for students staying on track with their grades. While there are sessions that allow students to pick classes that match interests classes, RTI (Response to Intervention) is tutoring for students scoring low on tests.
“I’m giving the opportunity for students to review and retake tests.” Sarah Bates, science teacher, said.
RISE time helps students with their grades, test scores, and is meant to help students flourish and nurture their minds.
“So if you’re struggling with something you can have the time to see a teacher that can help you or if you are doing well, that you could use that time for an enrichment activity or a club or a sport. We wanted to do it differently this year so that students could get more choice and get the help they needed,” Fee said.
